Data report: how do 78 AI tools handle your data?

We analysed 290 plans of 78 AI tools based on the providers’ public documents: where data is processed, whether inputs are used for training and whether a data processing agreement is documented.

Key findings

  1. 50 %

39 of 78 tools offer an EU hosting option in at least one plan.

Basis: hosting classified as “EU option”. To the analysis

  2. 14 %

11 of 78 tools use inputs for training in at least one plan (“yes”).

Basis: training classified as “yes”. To the analysis

  3. 10 %

8 of 78 tools have no publicly documented DPA in any recorded plan.

Basis: no plan with DPA “yes”. To the analysis

“Not publicly documented” means not verified in any provider source. It does not mean “no”. This is not a rating of the providers.

Hosting: where the plans process data

Classification per plan according to the providers. An EU server location alone says nothing about access from third countries. All tools with an EU option are also listed on the page AI tools with an EU hosting option.

Training: are inputs used for training?

“Opt-out available” means use is enabled by default but, according to the provider, can be switched off.

DPA: is a data processing agreement documented?

We count whether the provider publicly documents a data processing agreement (DPA) for the plan.

By plan tier

The same features, counted per plan and split by tier. For example: the share of Team/Business plans whose inputs are not used for training according to the provider, compared with individual plans.

Percentages per row, based on the plans in that tier. The tier comes from the dataset; where it is missing, it is derived from the plan name.

Results by category

Number of tools per category and how many of them meet each of the three key criteria. A tool counts as soon as one plan matches.

How we count

Basis
Classification in the dataset per plan based on the providers’ public documents. The visible tools and their plans are included. Entries without plan data are not part of the plan analyses.
“Yes”
The field in the dataset starts with “ja” (yes).
Not publicly documented
Not found in any provider source. This does not mean “no”.
Tool count
Tools with an EU option or training “yes” count once as soon as at least one plan matches. A tool counts as without a documented DPA if no plan is classified as DPA “yes”.
Free plans
Plan name contains Free, kostenlos or Gratis (case-insensitive).
Reference base
Category shares refer to tools; the bars on hosting, training and DPA refer to plans. Percentages are rounded.
Sources
Counted as source entries per tool (899 in total).
As of
Most recent retrieval date of all sources: 19 Oct 2026.

The full process is described in the methodology. Information may change. You can report errors via the correction form.
